H.E. Macky Sall

Former President, Republic of Senegal (2012-2024)

H.E. Macky Sall is the former President of the Republic of Senegal and currently serves as Chair of the Board of the Global Center on Adaptation. Elected president in 2012 and re-elected in 2019, he led Senegal for 12 years, implementing wide-ranging reforms that strengthened governance, infrastructure, and economic development, and positioning the country as a stable regional leader.

Before the presidency, he held several senior government roles, including Minister of Mines, Energy and Hydraulics, President of the National Assembly, and Mayor of Fatick. He founded the Alliance for the Republic party in 2008 after earning recognition for his pragmatic leadership, sector reforms, and commitment to institutional modernization.
